Get to the Bottom of Criminal Behavior — While Advancing to the Top of Your Career.

Make a Real Impact With Your Career.

Whether you’re already working in the public sector, or your career has yet to begin... you’re not just looking for a job. You’re looking to make a difference. Working in public service, non-profit organizations, and social enterprises requires a real passion for bringing about positive change in the world — as well as the kinds of leadership skills necessary in any successful business.

If you’ve got that passion, Monroe’s Master of Public Administration program can give you the skills.

The Curriculum

The range of public sector careers is vast; and it’s as varied as any in the private sector. That’s why Monroe’s MPA program is structured to help you find your focus. In addition to a common core curriculum, our students can specialize in areas of concentration including:

  • Public Affairs, Relations, and Policy Concentration
  • Non-Profit Management Concentration
  • Executive Leadership Concentration

There’s plenty of freedom within that structure as well; our students have the option to take on a dual concentration, to broaden their knowledge in more than one area. And no matter what they choose to specialize in, all MPA students complete a common, 21-credit core curriculum that covers:

  • Ethics and leadership
  • Organizational behavior
  • Research methods for public and non-profit management
  • Economics for public and non-profit management
  • Budgeting and finance for the public sector

All students also participate in a 3-credit capstone seminar that integrates everything they’ve learned — both theory and practice — so that they’re prepared to apply their knowledge in real-world settings.

Careers in Public Administration

MPA graduates will be well-prepared for dynamic, fulfilling careers in the public sector, including:

  • Executive Director
  • Finance Manager or Director
  • Human Resources Manager or Director
  • Budget, Financial, or Policy Analyst
  • Market Research Analyst
  • Public Relations and Fundraising Manager
  • Urban or Regional Planner

When you’re working in the public sector, every day brings new challenges. But no matter what path you choose, with a master’s in Public Administration, you’ll be ready for them. And you’ll end every day with the satisfaction of knowing you’ve made a difference.
